Unmagical Girl Vol. 1

I was at my local comic shop recently and saw a graphic novel called Unmagical Girl vol. 1 written by Ryouichi Yokohama and illustrated by Manmaru Uetsuki.

This is no world for a magical girl!

Pretty Angel NirBrave was once the spirited magical girl heroine of a cult TV show. But when an anime director’s computer goes on the fritz, it brings Pretty Angel NirBrave out of the screen and into our world! With bills and bullies to face, it’ll take more than a sparkly transformation and a frilly skirt to get by in “real” life.

That’s what the description on the back had written and it immediately sounded great to me so I grabbed it and bought it.

Anime Character That Gets on My Nerves

Hi, hi! Welcome to day 20 of the Anime Challenge! Today’s topic is: Anime Character That Gets on My Nerves.

I feel like these ones are always dangerous territory. I never want to offend anyone.

In all honesty, if I hadn’t seen past the first few episodes of My Hero Academia, I would have said Izuku Midoriya. I did keep watching though and that is no longer the case. (I have never seen a character grow as much as he has. ❤)  There is one character though that I feel didn’t grow up, whined way too much and bothered me throughout the entire series and that is Orihime Inoue from Bleach.

Now, I know I have already used a character from Bleach in this series of posts but, I find her REALLY annoying.

I really don’t care for the whole damsel in distress style character and that is what Orihime was. Yes, she did battle and fight for her friends but it was always that dramatic, “Oh no! What do I do? I have to talk myself through this entire thing!” and that just got on my nerves I guess. That is one reason I can’t stand to watch Yu-Gi-Oh! 😂 They talk themselves through literally everything.

I may also find Orihime a bit annoying because I may still be a bit salty that Ichigo didn’t end up with Rukia. 😢

What about you guys? Which character or characters do you find to be super annoying? Let me know here or on facebook!

Most Epic Scene Ever

Hi, hi! Welcome to day 19 of the Anime Challenge! Today’s topic is: Most Epic Scene Ever.

What defines an epic scene? My first thought was that it had to be a fight scene. I don’t feel that is right though. Any scene that has the ability to overpower any of the viewers emotions could be considered epic.

3 specific scenes come to my mind. This post will contain spoilers. You’ve been warned.

The first scene I thought of was from Sailor Moon R The Movie: Promise of the Rose.

I’m sure one of the reasons I thought of this first was nostalgia. However, I feel that this scene could be considered epic because of the power of friendship that is shown here and the risks Princess Serenity takes.

The next scene I thought of was another one dealing with friendship and risks. This one is a scene with Komari Kamikita from Little Busters!

Komari gave up her last wish to help her best friend in the whole world.

This is just one of the many scenes that made me love Komari so much. She was always there for her friends, she was always smiling. She kept the spiral of happiness going.

“Don’t cry Rin. Once, someone taught me to keep smiling till the very end. So I’m smiling now, even though you’re crying. I can’t go on with you. My story’s already over. But I want Rin to be able to smile. Let’s part with a smile, okay?”

The final scene I was reminded of was more of a battle scene. It’s a scene from Kyoukai no Kanata/Beyond the Boundary

This scene has so many elements that make it epic. There is an epic battle scene, there is sadness, there is happiness. I re-watched this scene before adding it to this post and even though I’ve seen it before, it still managed to make me cry again.

That is what I believe makes an epic scene. A scene that actually makes you feel.

What scene or scenes would you say are the most epic? Let me know here or on facebook!

Favorite Female Supporting Character

Hi, hi! Welcome to day 18 of the Anime Challenge! Today’s topic is: Favorite Female Supporting Character!

There are so many great supporting characters out there (sometimes better than the main character!). I’m also horrible with choosing favorites. I feel though, that recently, there is one female supporting character that stands out to me.

This precious cinnamon roll. Uraraka Ochaco is not only adorable but she’s a dedicated friend, classmate and daughter.

Uraraka is so strong physically, mentally and emotionally and I did not expect to see such strength when I first saw her in My Hero Academia.

I think part of the reason I like Uraraka so much is because she reminds me a lot of Kushieda Minori from Toradora. No matter how down she may be, she’s always there to support and cheer on her friends.

And come on, her zero gravity quirk is amazing!

Mario Day

Today, March 10th, is observed as Mario day. This is because March 10th abbreviated spells out Mario! (Mar10)

I’m sure this applies to many of you as well, but I grew up with Mario. My introduction into the gaming world was through Super Mario World.

Since then I’ve played so many other Mario games. In fact, I just recently completed Super Mario Odyssey. It was such a good game and I love that there’s still so much to do after finishing the main story.

I would say thought that my absolute favorite Mario games are Super Mario Bros 2 and 3, Super Mario World and Odyssey. There are a few out there that I still haven’t played though. I’ll get to them someday I’m sure. 😅

The fun thing about Mario games is that there isn’t a whole lot of reading to do so it’s fun to sit down and play but at the same time it’s easy enough for a kid just learning to read to play. (I used video games a lot to help me learn to read.)

Mario is such a fun and iconic character. He’s been to so many different worlds and seen so many different things. No matter how many times he’s had to fight Bowser, he still keeps going back to do it again too.

That little plumber dude works hard.

What was your first Mario game? Which one has been your favorite so far? Let me know here or on facebook!

Favorite Male Supporting Character

Hi, hi! Welcome to day 17 of the Anime Challenge! Today’s topic is: Favorite Male Supporting Character!

First, I would like to apologize for the hiatus. Holidays got busy and then flu season came around and just won’t go away!

Now, I’ll get to it! There are  so many fantastic supporting characters in the anime world. One of my favorites though would have to be Abarai Renji from Bleach!

I felt that Renji was a great addition to the cast for comic relief.

He’s not always comical though, he has his serious moments as well. Renji is also an extremely reliable friend. He does his best to cheer Rukia up when she needs it. He also refuses to leave his friends behind no matter how bad his injuries may be.
